Description:

After a long career as a film composer Steve became an archaeological researcher and author. His first book, 'Exploring Avebury: The Essential Guide', is hugely successful and has just gone to its fifth printing. He decided to follow it up not with another book, but with an album of music, as there are aspects of Avebury that he could express musically rather than with words. Avebury Soundscapes has ten tracks, each representing a different part of the Avebury complex. As well as the atmosphere of the monuments, there are other unusual features that naturally lend themselves to musical expression. The geometry of the Sanctuary, for instance, reveals itself through rhythmic sequences. this is explained by playing brief musical examples from a selection of tracks along with an animated PowerPoint slideshow. The album also contains 3-D binaural sounds recorded in and around Avebury; with headphones these appear to come from above and all around the listener.
